Tim Tebow: The future of Florida Gator Football
While I have always believed the Florida schools are overrated (1, 2) a new prize is in the midst in the swamp land. The future is bright with new Florida QB Tim Tebow, who should bring the gators years of BCS bowl appearances.

Although currently Tebow is the backup quarterback behind 4 year starter Chris Leak, there seems to be a little controversy in who should be the starting QB for the Florida Gators. Granted Tim Tebow is still a freshman, he has been very impressive in his game play behind Leak this year. Many sports fans and I myself believe Tim Tebow should be the starting Quarterback for the Gators.

Normally Tebow only plays during tight situations; 4th down and short yardage situations. But, these situations are clutch situations and Tebow almost always comes through. Now if a player excels in clutch situations, it really shows true talent and poise. Tebow is a clutch player and should be the starter.

Tebow, being a freshman, now has 3 seasons ahead of him to lead the Florida Gators to success. The 6-foot 3-inch 225 pounder poses as a dual threat quarterback. He can run and pass effectively. Although right now his main purpose is quarterback scrambles on short yardage situations.

So far Florida’s only loss this year in college football has come against Auburn. Now in this game, Tim Tebow only played for 4 plays! Perhaps the reason Florida lost? Just look at Tebow’s performance against LSU…impressive to say the least. Even fellow teammates such as FB Billy Latsko say, “He’s ready to run the offense.”

Tebow threw his first two touchdown passes, and ran for another, versus LSU on October 7th, 2006. The first, to TE Tate Casey, was a "jump pass" at the end of the first half in which Tebow jumped up in the air, double-pumped the ball, and lobbed it over the defense and into the hands of the TE.

Tebow, who was Florida’s “Mr. Football” coming out of high school, attended Nease High School, with whom he led to a state title. He was highly recruited, getting offers from Alabama, Michigan, Southern California, and LSU. But the Jacksonville, Florida native chose to stay close to home by selecting the University of Florida.

In Florida's 2006 "Orange and Blue" pre-season scrimmage, Tebow completed 15 of 21 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown. Because Tebow was so impressive in pre-season, many believed he had a shot at becoming the starting Quarterback. However, Florida decided to stick to its 4 year starter in Chris Leak. If anything, Chris Leak will serve as a good mentor to the young Tim Tebow.

Tebow’s college debut was in a goal line situation against Southern Mississippi, rushing for a touchdown on a QB run.
