Notre Dame Loss: Luck of the what?
The Irish were not so lucky against Michigan this last Saturday; despite being at home, despite having thousands of fans cheering for them, despite having a Quarterback (Brady Quinn) who is (was) one of the frontrunners for the Heisman trophy, despite having one of the top coaches in the nation in Charlie Weiss.

However on Saturday I don’t know what was a bigger problem: the poor play of QB Brady Quinn or the Notre Dame secondary getting schooled. br>
The Notre Dame secondary shouldn’t have any excuses, as they are all returning starters.

And Quinn? Never mind that he holds pretty much every season and career passing record at ND, Saturday was an embarrassing performance which included 3 interceptions contributing to a total of 5 turnovers.

Tradition speaking, it was most points scored against Notre Dame at home in 46 years.

One has to give Michigan credit though. They straight up out-played Notre Dame.

Chad Henne connected with Mario Manningham for 3 Touchdowns. Michigan looked better than last year’s team, which had a good offense but a sub par defense.

The defense is looking a lot better. Notre Dame was held to just 4 yards rushing on 17 attempts, compared to Michigan 120 yards on the ground. The 11 penalties against Notre Dame didn’t help either.

It won’t be easy for Quinn and his squad to recover from this loss.

They play Michigan St. next week. A team that looks strong this year, which is good for Coach John L Smith, who is on the hot seat after his dismal 5-6 record last year.
