March Madness 2007 is here!
Is your team "on the bubble"?
Selection Sunday for the 2007 NCAA College Basketball Tournament is on March 11, 2007.
The Selection Show airs on ESPN and CBS.
This is the most anticipated college basketball show where we find out if our team is one of the 65 teams that will enter the tournament.
The NCAA selection committee is appointed by the NCAA and consists of 10 athletic directors and conference commissioners throughout the NCAA.
30 of the 65 Teams will have automatic bids from winning their respective conference tournaments, leaving the rest of the teams for the
tournament for At Large bids, as selected by the Selection Committee.
The At Large Bids are largely based on RPI (Ratings Percentage Index), Strength of schedule, record against ranked teams, progression over the year and overall win-loss record.
Some of the best leagues who will get the most bids this year are the Pac 10, Big East, and the ACC.

The Gonzaga University Bulldogs had its 50-game home winning streak snapped with an 84-73 loss to Santa
Clara University. The streak was the longest current winning streak in the NCAA. The Bulldogs also
lost for the first time in the McCarthey Athletic Center, now 38-1 in their new home.
The streak began on Feb. 22, 2003, with a 69-60 win over Tulsa University. The last time
the Bulldogs lost in Spokane prior to Santa Clara was Feb. 19, 2003, to the
University of Portland 72-68 in The Kennel.
There are multiple reasons for Gonzaga’s loss and recent struggle this season:
- Poor shooting percentage at the foul line
Take away Derek Raivio (12-for-12) and Gonzaga University was 10-for-24
from the free throw line against Santa Clara University.
- Derek Raivio
Senior Derek Raivio is in perhaps the worst shooting slump of his
career over the last 10 games, shooting 39% from the field
and 25% from 3-point range.
- Gonzaga Drug Problems
The loss of Josh Heytvelt does not help.
- Tough Schedule
Eight teams on the Bulldogs schedule have been ranked at some point this season, including
five currently ranked, including:

Gonzaga, who holds the longest winning streak in the NCAA and is one of the best things about college basketball faced a major blow on February 10.
Gonzaga University sophomore Josh Heytvelt and freshman Theo Davis were arrested in Cheney, Washington for possession of marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.
The players have been suspended indefinitely for violation of team policy.
This won’t be good for a gonzaga team who has played a tough schedule this year and is already “on the bubble”. Relying on key wins against North Carolina, Texas and Washington may be enough to get them into the NCAA tournament though.
Heytvelt has started 22 of Gonzaga’s 25 games this season, averaging 15.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg and 1.7 blocked shots/game. Davis is redshirting following shoulder surgery in October.
"I am shocked and disappointed," Gonzaga head coach Mark Few said. "We regret the far-reaching effect this has on our program and the university.”
"I was saddened to learn of the allegations against Josh Heytvelt and Theo Davis. We take these allegations very seriously. We will follow up by applying the same rules and procedures that would be applied to any other student," Robert Spitzer, Gonzaga University president, said.
Of course this means players like Derek Raivio and Jeremy Pargo must really step things up a bit.
If things don’t work out, there’s always next year, right?
